DIY Pinecone Garland
Where has fall gone!? It seems like just a week ago we were saying hello to all things fall.
Time always seems to fly by this time of year. As quickly as we put out the fall decor, we are quick to put it all away.
If you’re like me, you may struggle a bit with the idea of jumping from pumpkins, to all things winter and Christmas so quickly.
I have an easy and, inexpensive solution to that transition from fall to winter decor.
Pinecones are a great, and free way to bring the natural transition of seasons into the home without breaking the bank and they will be pulling double duty.
This has to be my favorite garland I’ve made so far! Why is it my favorite!? Well, because I already have plans to transition it’s use from thanksgiving to Christmas! That’s where that double duty role I mentioned above comes into play.
The holidays can get expensive so, if you’re hosting and or just looking to save some money on Thanksgiving and Christmas decor this DIY is definitely for you too!
WHAT YOU WILL NEED:
Pinecones (I sent my kids out on a hunt to collect mine cause you can’t beat free!) or you can easily buy them at any local craft store.
Heavy twine or 1/4″ Sisal rope
Floral wire and wire cutters
DIRECTIONS:
1. If you go out hunting your own Pinecones be sure to bake them before use! Preheat the oven to 200 degrees F.
Place pinecones on a foil lined baking sheet or an old baking sheet you have reserved for crafts.
Bake Pinecones for 20-30 minutes. This will kill any bugs hanging out in them, also it will help dry out the sap.
NOTE-Be sure to stay near by! Do not leave Pinecones unattended. They maybe pretty dry already and could catch fire, so it’s important to keep a watchful eye.
2. Cut the wire to about 7 inches long and wind each piece of wire around the second or third row of each pinecone “leaf”. This will help keep the wire hidden in the ridges.
3. Take two to three Pinecones, depending on the how thick you would like your garland and form a bunch by twisting the wires together.
4. Now attach each bunch of pinecones to the twine by twisting the wire onto the twine. Keep attaching the bunches until you reach your desired length of the garland. Trim any excess wire. Be sure to tie a knot or loop at each end of the garland for hanging.
5. This step is optional. You can secure your garland and it’s shape by going through with a hot glue gun and glue the Pinecones to each other.
What do you think of this DIY? Would you make your own pinecone garland?
